The young Basque, born in 1971 in Bilbao was awarded the photography price Villa de Madrid in 1999, and in 2002 he received the ABC award for photography. His work is represented in numerous collections, among others at the Guggenheim Museum at Bilbao. Aitor Oritz turns his back on the classical task of architectural photography to achive a painterly image of space. The title of his series Destructuras, of 2001, is therefore his programme. while in this series the architectural structures are seen from outside, we see them, in Modular Rec, so to say from inside. Here the paintinglike aspect of photography moves into the foreground, where the more sculptural static elements played a vital role before.
